Hearthside House Guided Tour

HEARTHSIDE HOUSE HOSTS GUIDED TOUR ON THURSDAY, JUNE 22

If you’ve driven by Hearthside, the stately stone mansion on Great Road, and wondered what it was like inside, here’s your chance to find out.  On Thursday, June 22nd, Hearthside House is hosting a fully-guided tour of the 1810 historic home.  The tour kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and visitors will be led throughout three floors of the home to learn about its history and of the many families who lived there.  Featured on the tour is the Talbot family weaving collection, made up of 18th century looms, spinning wheels, winders and other equipment.  Coverlets and examples of the antique patterns that the nationally-renowned Talbots wove at Hearthside while operating their hand weaving business in the attic from 1904-1926 are also on display.

Known as “the house that love built,” Hearthside has a romantic past with the legendary story of it being built by Stephen Hopkins Smith with lottery winnings for a young woman he wished to marry.  The 1810 home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its significant architecture and history.  It has been home to 11 different families and is now owned by the Town of Lincoln.  It has been transformed into a house museum, where the stories of our past are being kept alive, by the nonprofit volunteer organization, Friends of Hearthside. Proceeds from tours and events support the continued restoration of the building.

The tour, led by guides in period attire, will conclude by 7:45 p.m.  Admission is $10 for adults; $5 students ages 10-17.
