North-South Trail Hike

June 4th Day 1 – Meet at Blue Shutters Beach @ 8am.  There will be some people gathering to cheer us on as we start our hike.  There may even be some type of media coverage.  We will end the day at Oak Embers Campground ~ 34 miles later (2900’ gain).  This will take us through maps 1 – 3 below:

We will need remember to take Plain Road (first road we will hit after leaving Barber trail) west to Escoheag Hill Rd to get to Oak Embers.

June 5th Day 2 – We will leave Oak Embers Campground at 8am and head to George Washington Campground.  This will be a hike of approximately 32 miles (2400′ gain) most of which is logging roads and paved roads.  This will take us through maps 4-6 (and some of 3).  The guy from OCA that gave me the maps said that he has easily ridden his bike through this entire section.

June 6th Day 3 – We will leave George Washington Campground at approximately 8am (please let me know what you think about this timing) as our goal is to get to Douglas State Forest for noontime. (Map 7)  This leg is approximately 11 miles with 1000′ gain.  There will be a small celebration waiting for us at the pavilion.  We may have a few people join us for this leg of the hike.  Additionally there will be a larger celebration at the Western Hotel Pizza starting at 4pm.  This will allow us time to get cleaned up and allow those who were working to join the celebration.
